Farrol Thompson

On April 20, 2022, Our Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Great Great Grandmother,Wife, Sister, and Friend went peacefully to sleep and continued on her journey to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and with our saints who have gone on before her. Farrol was born to Maurice and Margaret (Lyons) Brengle on March 10, 1930 in Newell, South Dakota. Farrol and her two sisters, Maureen and Coty rounded out the Brengle family. Farrol was the oldest of the three girls, and therefore had to set a good example for her younger sisters. Her efforts to keep her sisters in line often fell on deaf ears. Farrol attended grade school in the one room school at Hayden School. She went to high school for one year in Lead, SD and graduated from the Buffalo High School in 1947.

Farrol was united in marriage to Donald Andrew Thompson October 26, 1948 at the Brengle Ranch south of Buffalo. Farrol and Don were blessed to have three sons, Tedd, Zane, and Rock and then their daughter Jody arrived to complete the family. Along with riding herd on three boys, a husband and a daughter, Farrol found time to make quilts for her children and grandchildren. Farrol relaxed by knitting scarves, sweaters and afghans, she embroidered countless dish towels, she sewed western shirts for the boys and Jody’s clothes. Farrol loved to cook for her family. We all loved her donuts, Fatigmon, her chicken was beyond amazing and her spaghetti with clams was a favorite of all. Farrol loved her family beyond measure. She kept every note or card and news item that she received from her family. Farrol had a passion for writing down her thoughts and observations on what was happening in her life and in the world around her. There is a great comfort in knowing that someone would take the time to put pen to paper and send a message or a sketch to their Grandma Farrol. She kept and treasured every note and sketch any child would send to her.

Farrol loved to watch things grow, everything from kids, grandkids, great grandkids and great great grandkids, to flowers and gardens. Spending time in her garden and tending flowers was her passion. She also helped make her community better by being a substitute teacher at the Harding County School and by leading classes in life skills for young families in the community. Farrol was an avid reader and the adventures that she had in her books enhanced her ability to help and educate others.

Farrol was baptized at the Lyons ranch; she was confirmed at Grand River Lutheran and remained a member there her entire life. Farrol was active in the Ladies Circle at church and sang in the choir for many years. She was a member of the Buffalo Study Club until it disbanded.

Farrol has joined in new life, her parents Maurice and Margaret, her loving husband Don and his five brothers and sisters-in-law Pauland Stella, Bob and Charlotte, Dave and Letty, Dennis, and Roger and Don’s sister Georgene Sarsland and husband Bill, and Farrol’s brother-in-law Gene Stensland .

Farrol is survived by her sisters Coty Stensland, and Maureen Fowler and her husband Leet, and her sisters-in-law Cordella Thompson and Rita Thompson. She will be deeply missed by her children Tedd and Carmen Thompson, Zane and DebbieThompson, Rock and Danita Thompson, Jody and Gary Johnson, and all of their families.

Her daily presence in our lives will be greatly missed, but she left a wonderful legacy to carry on her passion for her family. May the memories that she shared with us keep us warm until we meet again.

One of Farrol's favorite says:

Make sure you test positive for Faith. Keep distance from Doubt, and isolate from Fear.

Trust God through it all.
